Hello, this German coin/medal I found interesting and may try to buy it but I can't find any information on it. Obverse side: Text reads 780 - 1980 1200 jahre hordt Center displays a a women sitting on a throne holding a baby in a archway with the word Hordt. Reverse: displays a town/village. It looks silver but not sure. Steve
It sounds like a privately issued 1200 year centennial medal for the city of Hordt in western Germany. What you describe with Mary and the baby on a throne is the coat of arms of that village. You will likely never find out the mintage if it was a private issued medal.
Nice design, at least the "town view" side. As brg5658 wrote, Hördt (in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate) celebrated the 1200th anniversary of the first documented reference in that year. Such medals are often issued or supported by the local savings bank (Sparkasse), but even then it is often difficult to determine a mintage or value. Silver medals will often have a three digit number (e.g. 925) indicating the silver content. But a piece that does not have it may still be silver ... Christian
