Hi, in a recent local auction lot of coins (x100's) I found this odd double strike, have asked various people but not received any reply so not sure if its of any particular interest or value, appreciate your views. The coins is milled all around and dated 1979 ( its the old uk 10p coin no longer minted). Metal is cupr/ni and appears to be the right weight. Appears UNC
I notice no one has mentioned that along with the double strike, it is also on an incomplete (clipped) planchet.
The clip is also milled on the edge, don't know if that is unusal. Also on the bottom rh corner of photo you can see that the coins has had a lateral strike producing a dint 1mm deep x 2mm wide across half the depth of the rim, not sure how this was caused. What the photo doesn't show very well is the luster on the shiny surface of the 2nd strike area far better than the original strike area - maybe the metal was hotter and produced a finer finish?
