Yup. It is a science experiment. Google "gold penny science experiment".

You know that gold is much heavier than copper or zinc, so is the "penny" really heavy?

My Irish ancestors were still mourning the death of King Brian Boru in 1018.

My mistake. Thanks for pointing that out. 2018 good penny. If it is real gold how much is the value

The US hasn't made gold coins in 85 years. Where would they get the gold to make this penny? If they made a gold penny at the current price of gold, it would be much smaller than 1 grain of sand.
Here's my gold plated penny (looks nicer in hand).

1 - it's not real. It's not a solid gold penny. If it is, you'll have to weigh it, and it will be much, much heavier than another 2018 cent.

2 - it could be that it looks different. Cents depending upon the environment, whether someone polished it, etc etc can look different. Just pay attention to more coin change and you will start seeing that.

3 - as mentioned above, if it is a gold, then it is likely gold plated. There are many science experiments where people do this. Plus, many, many third party companies plate coins (including gold) to resell to people. It's super-super thin plating and actually damages the value of the underlying coin. And the cost of recovery probably outweighs the gold value considering the cost of plating is less than the cost of recovery.

one such vendor that gold plates coins is ==> https://www.merrickmint.com/24k-gold-plated-coins.html?limit=64

if you were to peruse ebay there's a ton there too ...

It's not real. It was gold plated, probably at a school as a science project.
