As the title says I had a teller that has been putting old bills in her mutilated pile. I bought them to go through this evening. Anything I should be looking for? I usually only collect silver but I thought what the heck. I have seen a guide to production runs of bills on here before but I can't locate it. These are small face bills from 1985 back to 1934.
You might want to check with the district currency collectors and see if anyone is interested in well worn $20 bills. It seems like most only collect better condition bills but you mind find someone looking to fill a few holes near face value. http://www.cointalk.com/t98370/
i would check the dates on the website www.uspapermoney.info/serials He has most modern FRN's listed going back i believe to the early 70's. Notes dated before that i would need to look in my book for mintages to determine rarity.
Unless they are really bad, you could probably get a premium for any of the 1934 notes.....just check ebay and you'll see.
Look for any star notes, low serial numbers, fancy serials: radars, binary, ladder, repeaters... Heritage Currency Grading Tutorial
Star notes are going to be your best bet for value if they are circulated. I collect richmond district notes and as an example the highest book value for a non-star note, excluding series 1928, in vf20 is $50 for a 1934A mule (back plat <318). The 1928a $20 in vf20 is $100. For star notes in vf20 even a relatively common series 1950 has a book value of $80. With that said if you have any Richmond district notes, those with the 'E' seal let me know and I may be interested.
