Im very new to this hobby actually 2 weeks into the field. I purchased $25 brick of pennies. Well about half way threw the box I got a 1986 unplated penny. I was like wow. Then hit the error dealer sites and seen these for $100 to $255. These I wet my pants. Is there any truth to these being worth that much?
If you were to get the coin certified & slabbed - yeah you might get that much for it on ebay. But you won't likely get that much from a dealer.
8O The value of a coin is the amount someone is willing to pay for it. Set your prices high and dicker fom there. It has been my experience, when dealers really want something they dicker with you over the price and hopefully find a medium that is acceptable to both. Jess
GDJMSP and Jess are both right.Dealer's sell for profit at retail levels. For a collector to realize full retail the coin should be certified by a major grading service like PCGS. Then on to Ebay where it will recieve the maximum number of viewer's that might have interest in such a piece. The odds are, your coin will sell and have added value enough to pay the cost of certification when you decide to sell,so it pays for itself. Also, a error like this will sell much easier if it's certified. ~ Jim
I too am very new to collecting variety and error coins I have a 1986-d unplated but I am uncertain if it was an actual error or intentionally created. There are no raised mounds of copper however it does appear to have a bronze type shade to it on the edge. I will send pics but I am not working with the best camera for this so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You, Shayshay72 Actually it wont let me attach the images
