I do not collect paper money really... Thought this was a pretty nice star note with a pretty decent serial number. Tell me what you know about it...
It's from a run of 3.2 million, beginning with LF00000001*. A total of 96 million in that series. LF 000 00001 * - LF 032 00000 * fw n 3,200,000 1 LF 032 00001 * - LF 064 00000 * fw n 3,200,000 2 LF 064 00001 * - LF 096 00000 * fw n 3,200,000 3
Looks like a run of 3.2 mill, and 9.6 mill the series, not 96 mill. But... what do both of those things mean?
Not much value over face. On FB, fees and shipping will cut into any profit, making your net less than $100. Still, it's a nice find, and if you can afford to sit on it, keep it.
@rickmp is correct.....not much over face. Most $100 Star note collectors I know won't even look twice at modern $100 Star notes from large runs especially notes in circulated condition.
What are we talking about... $105? More, less? I really have no need for it, but don't want to send it back out into the wild if someone would collect it.
I probably will. I don't know if I wanna keep it, but I would hate for it to just go back in circulation. If I can't get a couple bucks profit, I might keep.
Personally, I would spend it. And I keep everything. Runs of 3.2 million are large. I only keep notes from runs of 640,000 or less.
This note from a 6.4 million run and its 511,118 of 6.4 million printed . Its also from the Atlanta District too ...
Heres one I found the other day and put on ebay today . I started an auction at 120 dollars and already have a bid on it too .
I also posted it on pcgs forums too .. http://forums.collectors.com/messageview.cfm?catid=23&threadid=951816
I would take it and invest it in a numismatic item that has greater potential to grow in value. With 6.4 million in print, how long do you think you would need to hold it for it's value to appreciate? Then look at your bent corner and center fold and deduct for that. Now would a nice 1919D MS63BN penny do better over the same time? Probably. You could find it for your $100. Rick's serial number is 510,000 lower than the OP's. That will make a difference.
I have one that I won at the casino lastyear on my birthday. I looked up completed sales on it sometime in March and they were in the $125-$130 range. I've kept it thinking that I would trade it on something cooler, but evertime I go to my box of swappables, I wind up leaving it there. Easiest note that I've got to remember where and how I got it. Maybe I'll swap it someday for something I'll remember what I swapped for it.
