63 or 64. However, I am concerned that the coin has hairlines and would lower the grade (or bag it) as a result....Mike
p.s. these coins are one of the ones that you need to be VERY careful in buying uncertified examples, IMO. There are a lot of games played with these coins, and to be frank, even the TPGs miss doctoring on them all too often.
I would hold out for another coin because of the long scratch on the obverse. It might be hard to sell later, but otherwise is a nice coin.
Is there some sort of damage running through the R in Liberty? And there are a couple of small rim dings. It's a decent coin otherwise. Gold is tough to grade but I would say MS61.
I've submitted quite a number of $10 Libbies. IMO, NGC would grade this one MS62, maybe 61. PCGS might go as low as AU58 (crazy, but they do it... trust me). Very remote chance it would pull a 63 (from either TPG) IMO. It's a shame this one has those obverse marks... there's a lot to like about this coin otherwise.
You guys are good. ANACS gave it a 61. I thought it looked much better than most of the bagged up 61s I've seen; but as pointed out, there are some obverse dings. I'll hold out.
I too would hold out for a "cleaner" example, but I have to say the fields and luster look really nice.
thanks. I guess it is trying to fit my coin purchases into a budget. I can afford 58-61s. 63+s are more than I'm willing to pay. So i'm trying to get the best coin for the grade. I agree though, the marks on liberty's hair are bothersome; so I'll hold out some more. I really like how strict ANACS grades in the new yellow holders.
I agree, ANACS lately has shown very tight grading standards. Some of my nicest coins are AU-58's, that's often the sweet spot for quality and price, imo. Unfortunately for me, a lot of other collectors have the same idea!
