Tell me what you guys think of this note? What do you think the grade is :D I will fill you in on what it really is in a little bit :)

also, with the serial running up into the design a bit, is that normal?

That is a great note!! I love it. I am not good at paper money grading (just got into paper a while ago so really have no clue) but I'll have fun and take a stab at it. 64?

    Very Choice New 64
“64” is an intermediate grade reserved for notes that are better than Choice New but that don’t quite reach the Gem grade. Such notes may have minor faults such as a couple of unobtrusive counting marks, ink or handling smudges, a single pinhole, or a rounded corner tip. The centering or margins will be better than average but may fall just short of that required for the Gem grade. It will still be an above average note, should have good eye appeal, and should not have any major blemishes or faults that are readily evident. A note at this grade level that receives the “PPQ” designation will likely have margins or centering that are slightly narrow or off center, but will possess complete originality.

    still thinking Choice Uncirculated 64 ?? :D

I think it looks more like a 63 myself, but maybe i am being a little to critical :) Dont get me wrong, i love the note! Its very crisp AND its my only africa note :p but the ink smudges, the thumb prints, the couple spots that look like rust stains, the rounded corners ... a 64 will show small defects like these, but IMHO it seems like there are more then a 64 might have.

am i being too critical? if so, feel free to tell me :D

anyhoot. I didnt pay CU64 money for it, so even if it is a 63, i still got a deal :)

click on the yellow bar just abover the image - this expands themimage to near ful size.

    obverse:
uppler left corner - yellow staining, and by the numeral '10' ink smudging
lower left corner - by the serial/signature - finger print smudge (you can make out the circular edge just above the '0' in '10')
right center - just to the left of the 'T' in Ten that is overlayed over the yellow seal - there are two reddish rust spots
upper right - just above the serial and the 'IC' in America - a small smudge

thats the obverse. There are alot fo smaller ink smudges/platters around the design of the note, but alot of that is normal. Another thing about this and alot of other notes from this series/time period - because of the way the note was desinged ... it just always looks 'dirty' to me lol so that could be part of it

as i said - i do love the note :D i just wasnt sure about it being a 64 :)

Wow, I guess I'm better at grading paper then I thought (or just lucky hehe). Very nice note, I have a $1 Africa note, not quite the same though and definatly not the same condition.

during the war, there was a real threat from Japan, and the US was really worried they would take control of certain parts of the world. Hawaii and North Africa were two areas of particular worries. Notes were issued either counter stamped with Hawaii, or printed with the yellow seal for North Africa. Thsi was doen for one reason... so if the areas were ever taken over by the opposite power, the notes could be deemed worthless on the spot. This would prevent the notes from being taken by the enemy and then redeemed in the US at a later time.
