Were the $10 1869 legal tender "rainbow" notes designed by the same guy who designed the $10 1880 " jackass" notes? They both have the eagle at bottom center so what makes them different other then series and the rainbow type?
The biggest difference is probably the color of the treasury seal. Since most currency is a collaboration of several engravers, I don't think you can say both notes were designed by "the same guy", but the Bureau of Engraving & Printing obviously liked the design and chose to keep it for many years with only minor changes.
Ok thanks that helps. Ive just read from descriptions the $10 1880 only being referred to as the jackass but never on the $10 1869. So i didnt know other then the 1869 rainbows design if jackass nickname was still given that series as well.
