i dont care if its real or not. if the seller cant oblige the request for better pics of what he is calling an error.. then walk away!

    just my 2 cents :)

There is an 1897 IHC with a 1 in neck. It appears to be the variety, but without better pics there is no telling. But if it is real, its worth quite a bit of money. Seeing the bids at only $8 is kinda worrisome. But as Daggerjon said:

Great question. yes I do see it. Notice on the throat, by where you might see an Adams apple. you should see the lower serif of the left foot of a 1. Last I read it was an R5 coin and generally runs about 16X the price of a regular date. It is listed as FS1-011.5

Nice error coin. It looks like it wouldn't slab, but a good price for such a coin.

It looks to be what Rick Snow called an S-1. Years back he said it was scarce in lower grades. Interesting coin.

    Hi,

Terminology is getting wild so I will add that the coin was the "1 in the neck" die variety.

Note...it is not an "error" but a die variety that is an important distinction.

    Thanks,
    Bill
