    Hi,
    Please what is the cause of the pitting shown on this coin?

    The photos are not clear. But the O in of appears to have an extra line inside the O and also above the T in states.

    What do you think?

    That cent is made from Zinc and it's decaying. In the coin world we call this Zinc Rot. Spend it before it disappears.

    True.. Copper layer is open and the Zinc underneath is being affected.

    The 'pitting' and voids you see are
    damage. The cent didn't leave the Mint
    looking like this.
