Off Topic I have the same medal that you use for your avatar, and I am curious if your medal has the same die chips as mine. "GENERAL DE"
No die chips that I can see. It's one of my favorite medals. I'm going to research the medal to find out what it commemorates.
It is a bronze presentation medal designed by Raymond Pelletier ca. 1964 and struck by the Paris Mint, 67mm, 5.79ozs./164.5gms. I can only assume that your medal was struck before mine. Thanks! ~ Chris
You're right: Raymond Pelletier, sculptor/medallist; French, 1907 -1958 https://www.britishmuseum.org/collection/term/BIOG113489 I wonder why mine has a different name,Jean-Louis Rogier, on it?
Like mine, your medal was made uninscribed, and the name was later added making it a presentation piece for that person. I have numerous French medals that were similarly produced, and a name was engraved or stamped onto it at a later date.
