Well, maybe 999th to be exact. I want to give back to CT, and promote greater appreciation of Ancient Coin Collecting. I would like to give away a new copy of Overstruck Greek Coinage to someone. The book is a little specific, but a good book that could be the start of a library. Anyone can enter, the winner will be at my discretion subject to opinions posted as who should win. Please just write that you would like the book, and why you might be interested in ancient coins. If someone enters and you like their response, please say so since if many vote in a person's favor I am likely to give it to them. If I believe its a close race I would prefer to give it to a YN, so please note if you are under 18. I will read all responses Monday, Nov. 1 and award the book then. I will PM you asking for your address. Thats it!
Overstruck Greek coins? That title alone sound fascinating. The idea that even back then they were 'recycling' their coinage sounds like a great topic for a book. As far as Ancient coins go, I only have a few and would like to start a collection, but I have always been intimidated by my lack of knowledge on the subject. Perhaps this book would be the way for me to introduce another aspect of the hobby to my collection. Thanks for the contest.
My 16 year old son just got a 3rd century BC greek coin for his collection from a kid's auction at a coin show. I would love the book to keep him interested in such treasures. Reading about the history of the coin could help keep his interest for future acquisitions. Thanks for the contest.
I am 12 and I have been trying to get into ancients, errors, and currency lately. I actually plan on trying to get an ancient Roman coin this weekend. Thanks for the contest!!! -Coinmaster1.
Thats really cool of you to do that, I would enter, But my oldest coin is a beat up 1868 Shield Nick. Congrats to the winner
i agree. cool prize and all, but i am under the impression that ancient coins are too pricey for me to even attempt collecting.
I would say that unless you wish to collect pocket change that ancient coins may be cheaper than US coins for most collectors. You can buy decent coins on Ebay for very little money. Its a misconception that ancients are expensive. The hardest part about ancient coins is knowledge, which is why I buy up extras of books like this and give them away. The most expensive ancient coin in the world is only worth 1/20th of the most expensive US coin I would say. US coins are the most expensive in the world. Chris
I would have guessed less lol yeah U.S. coins are too pricey for me to collect what I want. unless they have holes in em
Just in case anyone else wanted to participate, here is a review of the book. It has gotten pretty good reviews and is an interesting read. http://digitalhn.blogspot.com/2009/10/overstruck-greek-coins.html
Well Coinmaster1, you are a YN and seem enthusiastic so I am naming you the winner. I have already sent you a PM asking for your address. I hope you enjoy the book. Chris
