Among all the coins I've been searching through lately, this one stands out as very odd. The color is very red & much different from any others & it has circular lines through it. Polishing? Environmental? It weighs correct, 2.51 so I'm just trying to figure out why this coin looks so odd to me. I didn't have another '06 D to compare in the photo so I used an '08. Apples to oranges some may say, but you get my gist.
I care, that's why I asked the question. I care, that's why I can capture a sunset like this when others say 'Who cares that it's sunset? There'll be another one tomorrow.' There hasn't been another one like it since & I have the photo because I cared.
Right......That sunset is a lot more lovely than that Lincoln.......and once again, who the devil cares (about the Lincoln).
Oh I'm sorry...I thought this was the 'Coin Chat' forum, I didn't realize I was posting a thread in the 'Snobs who collect Commemorative Coins Only' forum. Please forgive my intrusion.
Now who cares about sunsets ... Seriously, no reason to belittle other people's finds. Some newbies may indeed have a thick skin and/or be on the same "wavelength", others might be frustrated or deterred. We're a nice bunch here, hehe. Christian
You're right Christian.........I was a real bonehead. @Vegasnay.......I've seen that kind of effect on coins that have come out of counting machines. Sorry about the other night.
Oh I have thick skin & I can dish it right back but come on, i wasn't asking how much my coin is worth & arguing with you guys on the point. I just thought it looked strange, both color & patterns, & was curious to how it happened. I mean I can't exactly ask Siri or post a photo on google to ask about it so the coin forum is the next best thing to cure my curiosity.
It looks like something was rotated against the coin, or the coin against something. What that something was is the question. Whatever it was must have been something non abrasive since the surface doesn't look scratched. Paper? It might be related to a roll wrapping process. The color looks like heat damage but I can't see how that would be related to the circular markings. Bottom line is we have no idea. BTW, many "old timers" here demand a certain protocol and almost require that posters have pre-knowledge of whatever they are posting about. It often takes a few posts to sort out exactly how to post without incurring the wrath of the in crowd. You'll also find that many here can't read or use logic; you'll ask one question and they'll answer something completely different. Ignore the naysayers and carry on. You handled your response admirably.
