The coin starting this thread is not a Henning. As stated the letters are too sharp and the fields will be more sandy and have occasional pimples...
I have two high grade 1944 Hennings and they do not have any steps. I believe he made his dies from worn host coins. But he did claim he made 6...
You were right with MD. It can happen on any side.
I agree it's all post mint damage. It's not an off center strike, you can see the rim on the reverse.
Nice photos. I see no reeding. There is just evidence at one spot of the collar just barely contacting one side of the edge. I would call this...
You said it has faint reeding. Both a broadstrike and an off centered strike are out of collar errors. Since the collar applies the reeding then...
I am looking to buy Henning Nickels dated 1946, 1947 & 1953. I will pay $250 to the first nickel of each date sold to me. Please contact me if...
What is the weight of the coin?
The blakesley effect occurs on clips and is not what occurs on cuds.
Our clad coinage has an inner core of pure copper and the outside layers are 75% copper and 25% nickel. The outer layers are the same composition...
Looks like it was plated and I'm guessing the plating is magnetic.
PMD. This can easily be done in a machine shop.
I think you will find this is an off centered strike and not a partial collar strike.
If it were a real error it wouldn't be a cud. Cuds are only at the edge of a coin and are never in the middle. This coin is definitly PMD from heat.
Doesn't look like a CUD to me. There is no weakness on the reverse opposite the extra material on the obverse. Also the extra material does not...
This is PMD. It is a cut from a tin snip or some other scissors style tool.
These are not cuds. They are die chips. Cuds only effect the edge of the coin.
The other rhing to keep in mind is this is a 1971 cent. The damage to the A could have happened years ago and the pushed up metal you would...
I agree with Gary. Struck through a little and the A is post mint damage.
The only thing I see in the photos is a deteriorated die. I don't see a double strike.
