As noted, there are a few diagnostics that can be used. Weight isn’t very reliable but quick. Best is to use the RDV diagnostics. Surest way.

I hadn’t thought about authenticity of Hobo nickels by dates, figuring any date was fair game. What is in hand might be the only qualifier.
