It’s a form of cleaning but it doesn’t harm the coin if done correctly. You can over dip which will harm the coin but even that leaves no scratch...

Maybe a dipping but I don’t see any signs of a cleaning. There are some marks on the slab. Between the coin and the slab photos were difficult.

The coin on the right does not show as much wear as the left coin. The left coin has a fatter date due to wear.
