If the rim has the same color as the coin, then it's environmental damage . But if the rim is shiny and looks new, could be improperly annealed ....

The reason you do not see the die chip, there's lots of years of wear has left craters in that area . [ATTACH]

Must be quite the difference in grading practices . How else could a coin go from 58 to 63 . Wouldn't conservation remove details from the coin ?
