This coin looks like the Die was about to shatter. Die cracks form in different areas until they meet. With continued use the Die finally shatters.
I'm only joking. The eye on the coin is damaged from taking a hit.

And yes, it is plated. It's a zinc coin with a very thin layer of copper over the zinc.
A clear case of plating blisters.
Are you aware that Abe was shot twice at the Ford Theater? The first bullet missedand grazed his eye. The second one killed him.

That is one damaged coin. It's a shame what some people do to coins, either for their own amusement or to try and create an error to fool the less...

Not even close to the famous 1916 DDO. The top of the number has an indentation on them from taking a hit. Look st the example in your Red Book...
