I took another look at the coin, and the scratches are really exaggerated by the picture. I'm not too scared anymore.
Light scratches around the C and E in CENT. I don’t think it’ll details just because of that, but given how picky PCGS can be I decided to check...
[ATTACH] [ATTACH] You might recognize this 1868 IHC from earlier: It’s the one with the rare die gouge I bought for $28. I’ve been thinking of...
It has arrived! [ATTACH] [ATTACH] And it’s much better than the seller pics suggest. I still think it’s an AG, but a high one as far as AGs go....
Not exactly. There is a massive die gouge going through the lower right part of the shield. It’s an eyeball variety that anyone can pick.
I’d say this coin is problem free and a solid AG-03. Maybe I’ll consider submitting to PCGS.
Yup! 1868 Snow-13. PCGS says $200 in AG-03!
Earlier this year I bought a “dateless” large cent for $28 which turned out to be a scarce 1797 S-121b. As it turns out, that’s no longer my best...
I have two from that same die pair! 1951-S.
This is an easy coin to get if you want a damaged, cleaned, repaired, or otherwise problematic example that looks like a major eyesore and don't...
MS-62. Yet another one of those dates that are much scarcer than most realize, and 90% of the extant population is damaged. Amazing example.
I am thinking that it has F-15 detail, but PCGS would most likely net it down to F-12 because of the surface issues (acceptable for copper coinage...
This coin was struck very weakly from worn, tired dies. It was given an MS grade because it shows no signs of wear. Look at some Buffalo Nickels...
Oh yeah, I speak Fortin! This was an easy one. The denticle ruler is 0C, and 107 is a match. I could be wrong however, you'll have to double check.
I’ve found one 2009-D in circulation. No 09-Ps as I’m in D land.
It can happen. However, if it does, it's most likely because a kid dumped their grandpa's collection into circulation. The 50-D nickels were...
I don't think it's QC but PCGS might think otherwise. Collectors like the old ANACS soap bars so I'd keep it in.
Is grading really SO hard that only a couple of grading services can do it well?
Thank you very much Paddy!
That’s some harsh cleaning. What a shame. :( Great educational piece. Sorry to hijack the thread, but is there a good online reference for...
