Well...that's a strange one. I have seen IHCs with odd surfaces. Glue is the usual explanation, but here it appears the metal surface is involved....
Interesting history--I was not aware of this turbulent transition in Sri Lanka's past. But no doubt, these warlords were fighting for control of...
Interesting--thanks for finding that! :) Often, you will see on coins minted in Norway several digit sizes between consecutive years or even for...
Often they will use shorthand like we do, ie 1937/27, or they will write out "1937 på 1927" (1937 on 1927). From what I've read, most collectors...
Man, I always enjoy seeing these coins from Rhodes. :D With that relief, they really did the 3/4 portrait well. Modern coins that attempt this,...
The thing about die varieties like doubled dies--they are either an exact match or they just can't be purported coin. And the 1969S-1DO-001 is a...
Nice find--I agree, the stroke of the 9 is easy to spot.
Overdates from Norway aren't well known, probably because most collectors don't look for them. So I'm left to find coins that have no documented...
Thanks! I should clarify--this was a gift, a friend found it.
Thanks to a friend, I've added this nice overdate to my collection. It's a strong overdate--easily visible despite some wear and corrosion: [IMG]...

Just tossing that out there--I stand corrected. :) I have also noticed that NGC/Krause doesn't list everything.
I have no knowledge specific to this coin, but generally speaking...sometimes digits are inverted on dies. If that's even possible in this case, a...
Wow--what a generous offer, thanks! :D
The notching and spread on the "Fr" is very clear and diagnostic of a doubled die. As for value, doubled dies are fairly common on Belgium coins....
I have yet to find this overdate; your coin clearly has the same markers as my reference picture--nice find! :D [IMG]
You're right--even if well-documented, it's the weaker of these two 27/6. I would much prefer having the OP's coin. :D
Good spot! :D Absolutely--it's very dramatic under the 7. I'm going to guess the OP's coin is a scarcer overdate--it's the first example I've seen.
Your coin got me wondering if this is a second 1927/6 overdate die? So I did an overlay of your coin with mine, fading between the two to compare...
