And here I was hoping to see a previously unknown 1815 quarter.
I would call that a time lapse of heavy corrosion, not toning. For all I know, the edges were filed to expose the zinc and the coin embedded in a...
You can't easily compare a 55 doubled die with other MS64 coins of the 1950s. The nature of the strong doubling combined with the aging obverse...
The gouges are the two little spikes you circled in the 4th picture. It looks like you do have doubling on the 82.
Look through the VAM 3 series again. Yours should match one of those based on the gouges between the eagle's left wing and body.
Would probably grade XF40.
I was going to guess MS62. Strike is typical and it has marks, but you have some nice toning and probably nice luster. I would only submit this...
Very attractive. I'll say it's XF.
Too much wear for AU. The dark coin makes it pretty obvious where the wear is, and I don't think the grade on this coin is as much penalizing it...
This is one reason I recommend buying a black camera if possible.
It depends on your skill level. It is possible to "max out" the coin photography potential of an inexpensive camera, but you can get great...
Machine doubling can happen this way. All it takes is for the coin and die to hit each other in some odd way and you get machine doubling....
XF at best. Obverse definitely looks cleaned. Not digging the rims, either. Possible ex-jewelry.
I spent a long time at the Philadelphia ANA show a couple years ago looking for a nice 1907 for my collection, either in 63 or 64, knowing that...
Buy the 81-S at bid. For me, that looks like a no-brainer. As for old holders in general, I hate rattlers, but if the coin is nice, I'd buy one....
You almost read me right, and it almost is that simple. If a counterfeit is made while the coin is in circulation so that it could circulate...
Because that worked out so well in 1979.
Since 1995. On my way to week 1 of the Summer Seminar to teach the Morgan dollar class. Waiting for my flight as I type.
Leroy Van Allen has written a monograph about these, but it's a few years and probably at least 10 die pairs out of date. I suspect he'll come...
I would bet the ICG would. They have a special yellow labels for these that is clearly marked "counterfeit" in several languages. They've...
Separate names with a comma.
