I see what I think is a die crack.
A coin that got tossed into a dryer (probably via someones pocket) and was tumbled around.
Looks like it could have been a dryer cent. The "spreading" of the letters is consistent with post-mint damage in any case.
In my opinion, no, it does not. But, if it does turn out to be one, I would send it in, as a DDR that drastic would command a very nice premium.
RARE!!!! UNSEARCHED ROLL OF WHEAT PENNIES FROM ESTATE SALE PEOPLE HAVE FOUND 1909-S VDB, KEY DATES, 1955 DOUBLE DIE AND MORE
It could be a clash with a large die dent, which is known to occur.
There are such things as misaligned die clashes, where the dies are not correctly aligned with each other and they clash. Not every single clash...
What you have pictured in the first few bays is a die clash.
Sorry, meant to specify that the plating cracks referred to the 1983. As to the reverse of the 1970, I have seen that particular anomaly before...
Die clash on the first coin, can't quite tell on the second. May be a crack in the plating.
You should stick to one coin per thread to avoid confusion...I can't really tell anything from the pics provided...
I think it's a large die gouge/dent.
Yes! That is a doubled column! (Whether it is listed or not, I am unsure. It may have been deemed too minor to list on coppercoins.com)
Your first image shows a normal part of the design.
[ATTACH] SF mint commem...so shiny it reflected the image of the camera! :D
Maybe it's just me but it looks dipped...
That's really cool. I could see it possibly going for $150+ on ebay, but I am not an expert at pricing errors like this. Once again, excellent find!
Ah, I see the problem now. The coin was struck sideways, as evidenced by the picture. :)
Hey, a plating problem that strong might get you $5 on ebay!
I think you missed the joke, there are no 1960s wheats. ;)
