While this is called an R5 in the subject line, it is not attributed as the S-142 it is. In this case, the obvious places to look on the obverse...
Just speculating... Possibly axial misalignment at the O(F)/Pole? Since you indicate a similar appearance on some 76a's, then perhaps at the time...
This should give you additional hope. I found this while going over 76b's on Heritage. I can't figure out why the pole would disappear and then...
I personally do NOT trust TPGs. But others do, so the ignorant will make your coin marketable. I'm still suspicious. As far as variety, if...
I wrote before seeing similar advice from others. I promise I did not copy it.
This is the age old question of caveat vendor vs caveat emptor. Is the obligation of wariness and risk primarily on the buyer or seller? Sellers...
I don't think so. The 1 seems too close to the curl to be Obverse 1.
Odds are S-219 and there's nothing I can see that indicates a S-218. ie blount 1, T right of JHF, etc.

Why? Marketing. Neiman Marcus used to have an outrageous Christmas gift featured on it's catalog which was never intended to be sold...until...
I think Conder has the answer. I think it's a repaired hole. I see "something" on the obverse which correlates to the same spot on the reverse....
You are right. This is the easiest for me to recognize because of the "horseshoe" look of the highest curl which is unique to Sheldon Obverse 19....
I would say counterfeit or heavily tooled at best. There isn't even a pole above the bust. The 5 isn't embedded. Bottoms of the 9 and 5 look like...
I hope they go all out and have a four coin set of silver proofs. This would be the first proofs made at Philadelphia since 1964 and the first...
A true collector doesn't need the TPG to hold his hand. And it certainly doesn't make sense to pay the TPG the entire premium to get the premium.
There is so much you COULD do with an online version. Add links and updates with trends. But I suspect it's just the book online.
