looks like a die chip. very common. if you look at the lettering on both sides of the state quarters you can find multiple on one coin.
i was checking through a jar of state quarters and came across this. the surface has a dry feeling. not smooth. do the arrows point to something...
i don't know if i am allowed to link this...but i think its a cool coin if its real....
i have one here that is the size of a nickel. i believe this might be what mikediamond was saying about rough and bumps [ATTACH]...

i looked them both over closely and i do not see any sign of the die crack there. do you know where might i find reference photos?

invest in a cheap usb microscope. pop a disc in and good to go. walmart sells them 70. ebay has some around 25
