If you are a good grader, you can find some very good deals in ICG slabs. That's a BIG "if", however.

I have seen no changing standards within the coins I collect (type and large cents).
I would think a few fresh ones from the mint would do just fine. It's not like they circulated, and there's nothing wrong with some variability....
AT or NT? Who knows. I'd call the coin MA and be done with it.
It is a subjective evaluation, and I don't think you will ever get an authoritative answer to it outside of "it depends".
