Something blocked the round area from the gunk that is around it.
That area is way too high for a RPD, it IS imagination. A RPD is usually directly under the date, with maybe a couple of edges showing.

They are both post-mint damage. The last one almost looks like a clip, but it has dings all around the rim, and it's not defined, sort of sloped.
I was able to zoom in 3 times by clicking on the pic, but I don't see anything, try taking a picture through a loupe or magnifying glass, in macro...
