Yes, it was carved from a original 1948 quarter for a coin collector
I don,t carve as many coins as i used to, but here is one i did yesterday for a collector.
I use the same tools as gun and knife engravers use, hand gravers, microscope, engraving vise, etc...King George III took about 10 hours to carve...

when i looked at this coin, the first thing i noticed was the wear or roundness where the height of the letters dropped off, which only comes by...
