Sorry, I ran out of room. But, anyway keep your daughter into coin collecting if you can. i feel it is a great way to give them a lifelong enjoyable hobby, as well as a bond between you two. My daughter (in the avatar) just turned three and shows tremendous interest in my collection already. I hope that interest grows as she does.
Thanks for the message, and keep in touch!!!

I have found the best way to protect myself from buying counterfeits is to learn as much as I can on Morgans through books, and discussion board such as Cointalk. As you are well aware I'm sure, they aren't just making fakes of the rare ones these days. As of now, I have about 1/4 of the collection complete, with no fakes to the best of my knowledge. I have, however made the mistake of buying some cleaned coins along the way. I do need to upgrade scales for silver dollars, as well as any other series these days. The frustrations of counterfeits, dishonest dealers, and skyrocketing silver prices sometimes get the best of me, and sometimes show in my posts. My best source for Morgans by the way, is a local dealer in my hometown of Manitowoc, Wisconsin. He knows my style of collecting, and directs me to the right purchase. If you are looking at purchasing circulated Morgans, try Alaska Coin Exchange. They have reasonable prices, and have been accurate gradewise.

Morning, Quarter! I see that you are collecting Morgan Dollars. I have really pulled out in light of the Chinese Counterfeit Mess. I have not added a Morgan to my collection because of this. How do you protect yourself? Do you buy slabs? Do you have the scales and or caliper to measure? Or do you buy directly? I have been finishing up my Silver Proof State collection with my 16 year old daughter in hopes of hooking her! Now I am finishing my "Eye Appeal" MS Franklin set, Morgans now have me spooked. Isolated on the Oregon Coast I have little options to buy direct, Eugene is two hours away. :(

I own nacgs.com. Basically started as an inhouse deal to conserve and protect coins but recently opened it up to the public. We give absolutely NO favoritism to our own coins and call them as we see them. Are we perfect....NO. Are the major grading services perfect....NO. As with all grading services....buy the coin, not the plastic.

Thank you for your comment. Sincerely, jerryb
