      Hahaha!

I almost bid on that unattributed 108a in the old ANACS holder... ;)

Nice coin. Glad to hear a forum member got it. :D

Hey, Lance... Didn't see that last response (below) until just now! :o Hahaha. Glad to hear the new bike business is booming. ;)

I'll keep my eye out for a nice 18/7 Lg. 8 for ya. :) Hope all is well, buddy.

      Hi Brian,
Sorry for the slow reply. I'm on the road headed to Utah, Miller Motorsports, to put on a motorcycle track event. So I'll be on and offline for the next week.

Glad you like that 1818/7. It's nice and crusty with pretty clean surfaces. I picked it up on ebay a couple of months ago. So-so pictures of a nice coin. I'll think of you but honestly I don't see selling it unless a really sweet AU comes along. Find me one!

      Stay well,
      Lance.

      Hey Lance,

Promise me something - If you ever decide to break up your Capped Bust Half set, give me first short at your '18/7 Large 8?

Hope all is well, buddy. :)

      Hi Jenn,
Sure, we've all had moments when we were at a disadvantage. I rely on a few dealers whose opinion I trust.

If it feels wrong, walk away. Turn to forum members...here or across the street (PCGS or NGC). Usually there is good advice.
      Lance.

Hey Lance! Thank you so much 4 the 411 I really appreciate it. Have you ever felt like you were suckered outta a coin/s due 2 lack of knowledge? Why is it that when you go 2 dealers here in the bay it feels like you're getting pushed out the door or like you're being jacked?

BTW... I have a cousin named Lance.

Your set is definitely amongst the finest! Give yourself some well-deserved credit, man! :)

Cherrypicking a '20 No Serifs would be incredible! And actually, I've cherrypicked an R5 before- The unlisted 1808 O.104a. Unfortunately, it was well-worn, but still managed to turn a profit. I'd have kept it for my set just because it's an R5, but it just didn't fit too well, ya know?

Thanks for tracking down a few facts for me! Really appreciate it! Any knowledge I have of this series is extremely helpful, and you'll always be my go-to guy! :)

      Take Care,
      Brian

Lance,That's incredible! Your set is truly one-of-a-kind. So, you're saying you don't own any examples of the 1820 "No Serifs"? Just curious because I'm having trouble finding a pop./condition census online. My set's coming along slowly but surely, thanks for asking! :) Recently picked up an 1812 VF35 PCGS (medium grey, bold strike, slight circ. cameo). And a raw, fully-original 1814 (PCGS'd probably give it a 35 as well) arrived at my doorstep this afternoon. Also looking at an 1817 "Punctuated Date" (181.7) VF35 PCGS and an 1827 Curl Base '2' VF30 PCGS. Hope to get a few extra bucks for some stuff I've cherrypicked over the course of a month or so. One piece, of which I paid $50 for, I should double my money on! Score:hail:! Whatever extra money I get right now is thrown right into funding this set!-Brian

      Long time no chat, Lance...

Just stopped by to ask a question out of simple curiosity; Do you have an 1820 No Serifs in your CBH Registry set? And if so, what's it grade? I'd check myself, but lately I haven't been able to access the site. Darn technology! :rollling:

And, yes, I view your set all of the time... and the majority of the time is spent drooling. ;)

Hope all is well, buddy! :)

      Take Care,
      Brian

Lance, I'm the principal author of the article on Standing Liberty quarters at Wikipedia. Would you be willing to let us use your images of the 1917 Type 1, which are beautiful, under a Creative Commons license in the article? Right now, we're dependent on poor images. Help us!

Thank you so much for the info, Lance! Yeah, I'm thinking certified for the set. Figure it's the safest thing to do. Though, if I do happen upon a nice, original raw piece that I find attractive and that will evenly match others in the set, I won't hesitate to buy and certify on a later date (I'm actually looking at a couple of nice raw ones on eBay right now that I've already gotten a few opinions on... All say original). I also have not decided whether to go for varieties in the set or not. What I may do is start by collecting each date and then gradually purchase the overdates and various, scarce Overtons.

Thanks again for all of the help, Lance. :)

      Take Care,
      Brian

Good for you. CBH's are very popular and risks are pretty low. I.e., you aren't likely to see demand plummet and the bottom fall out.

Have you decided on raw vs. graded? I think it makes sense to commit to one or the other. Certainly raw will be cheaper but you'll likely end up with some problem coins.

Another thing that I would suggest is you focus on the best original-looking coins you can find. You will be seduced by some dipped and retoned ones, that look sexy and are otherwise market-acceptable...even top TPG-graded. But you probably will not complete a matching set unless you spend many years at it.

Serious CBH collectors care about originality. That dirty grey look, e.g. They overlook small distractions and wouldn't even think of buying a dipped, blast white. That is the set I would put together if I were doing VF/XF.

A few will be pricey even in VF. 1807, 1815, 1839-O. Brace yourself. The keys are usually wise buys, though.

Hey, LanceSo, I've decided that I'm going to start a CBH set! I'm thinking VF would be a good, solid grade with maybe a few XF's thrown in (Don't quite have as much dough to roll-out to start a beautiful AU set like yours :o). I'm basically just looking for a bit of advice... Maybe where to start, important information I may need to know, ect. I've already been told which Overton book(s) to buy, which I already knew a bit about from studying CBH's in the past. Anyways, any information you may have found helpful when creating your set I would love to hear! :D Thanks and Take Care,Brian

I'm great, Lance, thanks for asking. :)

Recently, I picked up an MS63 NGC '21 Peace. T'was hard finding one with a nice strike that was moderately white, but after a few months of hunting, I found the perfect example. I believe I've got a photo or two in one of my albums here on CT, so you can check those out when you've got the time. :)

Wow! That sounds like one nice CBH! I'd ove to see a photograph of it WHEN you win (I believe in you!). Is that a coin featured in the HA.com auction that's ending tonite? I'm watching it live as we speak! :)
