Hi Steve< I understand your reluctance to sell your counterstamp...I can't part with any of mine either. As far as the "Warranted" stamp goes. These were fairly commonly stamped on coins in the U.S. as well as England and implied a guarantee of quality. They're generally found included with the stamps of gunsmiths, toolmakers, or almost anyone who worked with metal. Other similar phrases are "Warranted/ Cast Steel" or "Warranted/Solid" or something similar. I'm glad you contacted me about your great find Steve. If you ever change your mind...... Hi Hawknuts, Thanks for the message about your great find. Although there's a lot of speculation that Demuth was a gunsmith, my feeling is that he sold guns through the family's tobacco business. I found no solid evidence that tells me he actually was a practicing gunsmith. It seems everybody knows the name but very little about him. You have a great find there, especially for the "reasonable" price. If you'd be interested in selling it please let me know. Thanks again. Best regards, Bruce
