Standing Liberty???

I have a two questions about this coin.First is there a way to tell what year I have?I know It's after the the modification in 1917 because there's stars below the eagle and If you look close there is strap that leads to cover the breast.It's before the Recessed Date because the year has worn off completly! Also if I can't figure out the date it still has some value because of the silver.So can anyone tell me any clues on what the date is and how much silver it has? Thanks B12

any way to get a bigger shot of the lower half of the obv? i've got young eyes and maybe i can get a good look at it.

My eyes aren't as young as yours, Julzboi, but I think it's a 193?...

I don't think there's any way you can find out the date on it... some people have been known to use some sort of acid to bring out dates (like on Buffalo nickels), but for this coin... it's worth bullion value...

they were only made until 1930

 

I would say it is a 1930 because the 3 is fairly easy to see just to the right of her foot and since the 3 is there this would be the 3rd # in the date and no other dates exist in the 30's.

Actually, I do see a 3 (looks a little small thou.)so that would make it a 1930.

 

I can't buy the 1930 theory because 1924 was the final year of the easy-wear dates. Based on the rest of the wear, a recessed date would still be visible.

I've never heard of a way to date the early SLQs any more than you have already - A variety 2 (with the stars) could be anything from 1917-24, worth bullion value. Like all pre-1965 silver quarters, it started out as 5.25g of .900 silver - ASW .18084 oz., with a melt value of about $1.58 as of 1:30 EST today.

 

I'm seeing a 3 too. At the very least silver coin bullion value tends to be 5X face. So at the least its $1.25

 

Here's a 1924 for comparison purposes.Look how the date and Liberty's face are worn in comparison to the rest of the coin.This is what Roy is talking about.

 

Here is a 1930 you can see where the 3 is and look in the same area on your coin. I have seen several of these quarters with the recessed date which was wore pretty bad. I use to have several but with the price of silver up I sold them.

 

You all have better eyes than I do. I can't see any numbers at all.

 

D'oh! What was I thinking? If there's a "3" there, it has to be a 1930... Good catch, Julzboi...

 

I must admit that I can also see the outline of a "3" there.That coin must be extremely worn down to have caused that recessed date to almost completely disappear!
After 1924,you can almost always read some of the numbers and also see the outline of the recessed border.

I see the "3" but it looks small and the bottom curls up. It should be flat like the 3 in the other pic.
