Morning all, I know you won't ever get rich by giving everything away, but my wife and I went through a financial disaster a couple of years ago and had to *dramatically* change the way we spent money. Part of that change was a big change in how we give - and we love it! So as a small part of that, I am giving away a few 1943 steel cents. I know these are common but they are sought after by those who don't have one. So - if you don't have one and want one, post here and I will send you one no strings attached. Maybe I'll include a wheat or two as well. Consider doing the same for someone else later - and happy hunting! EDIT** As a twist - I am putting it in the contest section....While these come to the winners with NO STRINGS ATTACHED - I think it would be cool for those who get one to make their own giveaway with slightly more value....(i.e. if you get a steelie and a wheatie with a total value of 6-7 cents etc..... make a contest and give away something that is worth 9-10 cents). Maybe down the line, someone will receive something big! Either way - an idea - not a requirement. Have a great Labor Day! Scott P.S. The first 5 to reply saying they don't have one win. You can PM me your address if you don't want to post it.
aww man i have 2 this is a great idea though! spreading the wealth is a very philanthropic thing of you to do! who knows... it might even start the collection of a future expert
Great idea! I'm sure there might not be a lot of people on this site without a steel cent though, like me. Thanks anyway!
I don't have any either! Even though it's a fairly common coin, it'll still remind me that there still are some nice people
And the winners are: DMiller Derekg debordj Plantguy7 Taubin Your steel cent will be mailed tomorrow along with an extra goodie or two. Congrats! In other news, I decided to take the day and just run through a few banks and see what happened. I found complete rolls of '68s, 69's and '64s. The total was 23 90's and 130 40's and a "millenium eagle" .999 silver (dollar I 1 oz silver I think)! I couldn't believe it and my wife all of a sudden became a fan of my "coin thing". It really amps you up for the skunks we all get sometimes. Cheers, Scott
Bravo, Scott! It's small acts such as this that make this such a wonderful hobby with a wonderful community of collectors. Guy
Wow, awesome, thank you Scott! I can't wait to have enough coins to do the same thing. Thank you very much for your generosity!
What a nice thing to do.... I'm sure your generosity will spark a number of folks to do something nice for someone else. I'm working on a contest right now for everyone, but still deciding on what exactly the contest should be. Oh, and as far as your roll searching goes.... when you say you found "23 90's" and "130 40's" do you mean 23 90% silver, and 130 40% silver? You didn't say what denomination rolls you were checking out. And a 1oz silver round... wow... what did you find that in a roll of?
Sorry for the delay - hopefully everything has arrived by now. I was out of town for a bit right after the contest ended and didn't get a chance to mail them out before I left. Also - I meant 90%'rs and 40%'rs on silver in half dollars. The Millenium eagle (whatever it is exactly) was found in a roll of halves.
Hi Scott, I got my coins yesterday, and wanted to stop by and give you a HUGE THANK YOU! For your generosity. I'll take photos and post them once I'm out of work, I just wanted to be sure to stop in and give you a huge, heartfelt thank you!
That is very cool guys, sending these coins to folks who don't have them in their collection....great idea. Like DMiller said.... 'people like you make this an enjoyable hobby'. Well I would have to say that it is already extremely enjoyable, as I'm sure many would agree... but people like you certainly do make it much more enjoyable for other people. I thank you for your gratitude towards others. My best friend, who became a buddhist monk at age 20, and hasn't looked back since, now 25, he is an ordained monk, and well, he would be happy to hear of such generosity. Even though he is forbidden from touching money.... even money that is 60 years old and no longer used... any money at all.
Excellent idea, I have 3 (that are not as of quite yet my own) I will be buying them as part of a set from my friend hopefully. Too bad ya don't have any indian heads for free/cheap I am lacking a single one in my collection
