http://news.yahoo.com/s/huffpost/721294 Story - not an official announcment. This site discusses ideas for new potential designs on U.S. Currency. Sorry if this is old news. I just discovered it. Notice, that the story reference above does not appear to be driven by a Government Agency (outright?).
sorry those designs are never going to happpen. Way to different and nobody would ever go for different sized bills. plus with the new security features they would'nt change after alll that work.
sure, it may have been posted on the forum before, but still an interesting idea. Some of the designs i like, i am just not sure how i feel if i had to use them every day lol talk about double standards not sure if the 'dollar redesign project' will succeed however... I look at the federal govt like a mule - the more you try to force it to do something it doesnt want to do, the harder it fights not to do anything at all!
Lady SunFlower, it's good to learn that your beautiful self is again online with us. Trust that you enjoyed your hiatus. The absence of your sage comments left us with a giant, empty puka. In the Hawaiian language, puka = hole. Those among us who regularly carry our folding money in a front jeans pocket look at the proposed metrosexual designs and scream: Don't change history. When necessary, only replace in-kind. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Don't screw with success. The recent generational changes in our currency have been evolutionary in nature, with each generational change being highly acceptable to our populace. The evolution provides for promoting functional need, while reflecting artistic considerations. This has been highly successful. Continue the success. Don't screw with proven success. Rant - Rant - Rant
To our favorite MPC story telling man in Hawaii, thanks for replying. The Sunflower and her retired farmer were wilting pretty bad. Still coming out of it - doctor said another 6 weeks or so for the Sunflower. Nothing serious for her, just something to drag on. Had a brief repreive about a week ago and went on a MPC shopping spree. CT Member MPC USA is helping with some PCGS grading submissions too. The new notes might be just the cure for the Sunflower - not her/his wallet, but Sunflower's spirit. I am glad I checked this thread. Seeing this response is like receiving a welcome rain. Regarding the original post, it turned out to be one that was already covered. I did a brief search and seek before posting, but missed it. Again, I appreciate the kind welcome back. I was actually thinking about dropping out. I don't feel I have anything to contribute. On a different note, I did receive 4 very crisp 10 dollar bills with consecutive serial numbers recently from a bank teller. Each of the bills had "roller like ink" across them - reminded me of an old Xerox printer. The "tens" are not folded in any pockets. I placed them flat between two MPC's in an envelop. Crisp currency is still cool to me, even if it is being printed off a press at NASCAR speed. A little more rant on currency art and coin art too: I would perfer that the Treasury keep the images of men on the currency/paper; and keep images of women on the coins/metal.
There is a push for the different size notes for the Blind so they can know the different notes without help. So don't be to certain that something like this does not go thru as there is a lot that the PC crowd can get done when they want to.
But after actually testing the different possibilities, the BEP concluded that raised tactile features on the notes actually helped the blind a lot more than different-sized notes. And since the raised features also require much less modification of existing currency-handling equipment, they look like a superior solution all around. See the BEP's recommendation in the Federal Register here. The public comment period closed about a month ago; I'm not sure when we can expect the next step in the process....
Several years ago, when I spent time with several individuals with blindness, I learned something about how currency could remain recognizable. Different denominations were simply folded a certain way. This does not help much with getting change back from a unsavory individual, but I thought it was a good and simple means to being able to differentiate between pulling a $5 or a $10 out.
hmm i do not see how president Obama gets to the point in being in a bill in doing nothing historic and taking away George Washington face. Either way i hate the looks of it as im guessing it will be the same type as the Mexican money bills.
Why not simply change the color of the numbers and rim of bills for the visually impaired and braille on the corners for the blind? Simple and effective change.
Canadian bills have a tactile feature on it's notes. It isn't braille but a series of dots that represent different denominations to assist the visually impaired: http://www.cdnpapermoney.com/English/BoC/error_braille.htm
