This pic sucks, but I dont have my good camera with me.
I can post a better one once I get it back

I found this in a 2009 Us Mint uncirculated set. It is original and unopened.
There is a nice size gouge on the obverse of the James Polk $1 coin.
I want to know if this is an actual printing error or if one of the workers may have dropped it or something?

I know its hard to tell from the picture but if anyone can help me out, its been bugging me.

It could be a gouge or a struck through, won't know without a larger picture of the coin.

    gotcha
ill get a better pic up asap

I forgot to mention the reverse of the coin is fine.
So its more than likely a gouge

If it is a scratch or gouge it is not an error, just a damaged coin.

Struck through's don't effect the reverse.

    A better photo would help

It most likely a post mint damage?
the only reported error found so far is 2010-D Sacajawea Native Dollar with no rim inscription.

More than likely it is a strike through. They are very common with the satin finish coins for some reason.

If the gouge appears to be raised, it may be damage to the die. If the gouge appears to be recessed, it is probably damage to the coin or a strikethrough.
