I use IS holders for my raw ASEs and also store them in the IS box for added protection from (i.e., slow down) toning. TC
I'm planning to put my buffalo and panda coins along with mint plastic packaging in 2x2. Will IS technology react with plastic to damage the coins? I think buffalo probably will work but not sure about panda since its packaging is big (read somewhere that panda packaging is PVC. Is this true?) thanks
I'm really not sure what you are talking about here. The coins must be removed from mint packaging before they can be placed in the IS holders.
Buffalo is wrapped in a plastic sheet. I can cut the sheet to fit in a 2x2 and put the whole thing in the holder (this is my assumption since I never seen an actual IS holder). Panda is wrapped in a plastic pouch. Unless the size is smaller than 2x2, it probably will not fit. But before I try this, I want to make sure plastic will not react with the holder.
It won't work. The coin must be removed from any and all packaging before you can even put it in the IS holder. And if the coin were still sealed in plastic then the IS holder could not protect the coin anyway.
This is the truth. If you want to get it inside an IS holder, you will need to remove the coin from the plastic packaging. Be sure to use cotton gloves and hold on to the edges. TC
BTW, what material is the black insert in the 2x2? Will it damage the coin? I read somewhere that black foam used airtite stick to coins sometime. Does IS do that? Thanks.
That black foam in Intercept Shield 2x2 is the actual intercept shield material. That is what protects the coin. Without it - you have nothing. And ring inserts, black or white, in Air-Tite holders is 100% inert. It will not harm any coin in any way. And there has never, ever, been a case where it has.
