J.H. Cline, the authority on SLQ's as far as I'm concerned, is offering an MS-63FH for $900 and a pair of MS-65FH for $3400. While the BIN price is a top-dollar figure for an MS-64FH, I wouldn't be surprised at all if this coin makes reserve at around $1400-$1500. I bought one coin from Ira, an AU-55 Hawaiian Half. I'm still quite pleased with the purchase.
No offense, but it could have been 2 bidders with deep pockets and emotions involved. One auction result doesn't a market value make. If there are a few recent auction results at this level then yes.
As I mentioned before , don't forget about adding Sales Tax if your considering a bid . That may wind up costing you around $1,800 for that 64 FH . Weigh that figure against recent auction prices . Heritage had one , a Blast White piece which sold for around that figure . Why ? I can't say . Nothing special about that one . Just an over zealous bidder . As was stated before , that does not make a " market Value trend " The coin in question, is very nice , with lots of Eye Appeal and worth a small premium , but IMHO no where near $ 1,800.00 That is just getting in way to deep into a coin , if you need to liquidate the coin for any reason. What do you think a Dealer would offer you on this one , should that be the case ? $600.00 ! Thats a deep loss . At auction typically these bring $900.00- $1,100.00 , is my guess . With patience I think one might find one just as nice , possibly in a 65 for this kind of money. Just my op.
Well that's one of the most beautiful SLQ's I've ever seen and it's the eleventh hour!! It's good to see a FH, how high will it go?
Thats good to hear. However , none of that justifies this asking price . The seller is in way deep on this one , and is trying to get out from under with a small profit . It's almost impossible to recoup from a bad buy . You all know that . But that is what makes winners & losers in this game. If I'm going to take a Hit , it's going to be my fault , and not one where I pull someone else out of their error. This is his second listing for this item , the last time it was at a BUY NOW for $1,575.00 ( didn't sell ) than re-listed at the current reserve price. I can't say I wish the seller well , because that would mean someone is getting clonked , in a big way ., and yes, he does have some other very nice items for sale.
You make a great point there coinman. Lots of folks fall in love with a coin and pay way too much to own it now. If they hang on to it for many years they might be ok but it's questionable. What a crazy hobby.
Yes it sure is. Just look at that recent find 1856-O . Some ole farmer had the coin and passed it on through a few generations . Low and behold , it turns out to be one of the Rarest . I just recently found some old purchase receipts. One was for an 1864 Dollar ( Raw ) which I paid $700.00 than . I re-sold the coin for a very nice profit in 2003 . Wish I had still held onto that one, she was a beauty , but had some light cleaning prior to my ownership . I purchased the coin from a friend of Harry Bass . Sure wish I had that coin today , but I was hard pressed for Health reasons and dispersed a major part of my holdings .
The Sale ended, and it seems the 1917-S Ty 1 PCGS MS 64FH did not sell at the reserve of $1,750.00 . The highest bid was $1,180.00 .
