While sifting my stuff I found coins. This one grabbed my eye because it was going into my "Coins with holes" can. Then I noticed the hole had a hole (in-cursive} inside the hole! How could a production coin be made this way? I mean the INSIDE, from both sides, is larger in diameter than the OUTSIDE!!!
Punched then stamped Spouse, bad engineer, great speller, trumped me on this. She suggested they made the hole, then compressed the exterior and "puckered" the edges after the fact. Is that do~able?
Yep that is doable, the planchet is holed, the stamping causes the difference, the coin would need to be collared and not set on a spindle.
More Whole~ness 1938 I don't know if this even a coin. But it ended up in the pile of holed things. It this a coin?
ThanX Finally found some listed on FeeBay under that title. Thank you for helping me know where to look. Guess I'll throw it back into the pile of holed coins, labeled as such. I kinnda liked the font but there is no market pressure for this item from what I read. So it resides with my Funny Money~holed~
