Just finished my box of dimes. 2x 90%, 2x'09, and about 10x '10. Not too bad.

    1000 Silver Halves Found

I was on a little vacation, so let me catch up. I found $6 of loose halves and found 1 40%er. I also did 2 boxes of halves:
    Box 1: Skunk
Box 2: 1 1964 and 1 MS near FBL 1961 Franklin (BEAUTIFUL coin)

This makes 1000 Silver half dollars found since I started 6/1/09. Though I have not had the best luck (AggieCollector and GypsyTears and a few others come to mind), I have had better luck than many and I am thrilled with my finds. I never dreamed I could find so much silver this many years after clad coinage went into effect. Here are some statistics:

    200 boxes Searched
An additional $8205 worth of halves searched

    1000 total Silver halves:
    776 40%ers (77.6%)
    224 90%ers (22.4%) - 10 Walkers, 24 Franklins, 190 Kennedys
Average Silver found per box is 3.36
Also found a few clad commemoratives
I have found over 100 proofs

    Best finds:
    In a box: 52 (all 40%ers)
Most 90%ers in one box: 15
Best non-box finds: 2 rolls of BU 1964 at one bank, and out of $270 of CWRolls: 77 silver (9 of them 1964)
Worst streak: 13 skunk boxes in a row
Worst stretch: only 30 silver coins in 30 boxes

To Chicken_Little: THANK YOU for starting this thread as I never would have done this. To all: Thanks for continuing to post.

I have also found 45 silver Roosies in 10 boxes and 7 bags searched. And, one silver war nickel.

Now, I am going to cut way back and do maybe one box a week and one or two banks instead of 4 boxes and a dozen or more banks. My finds lately have not matched my effort and I have been neglecting other stuff I need to do at home. So, I'll still be posting, but not as much.

Way to stick with it even when things got slim. I only hope that at some point I'll hit 1000 coins. Here in the northeast, there is lots of competition and boxes haven't been very friendly. I hit the local banks that are convienent but have stopped driving out of the way to look.

My bank said they will have to start charging 3.50 cents per box with a limit off 5. Time to find a new bank to order halves from. Anyway 2 boxes of halves 2 40%ers.

I am having to find new ways to off load my junk halves. Yesterday I bought a six pack with the leftovers from the roll, the cashier wasn't very happy about it. ;)

Congratulations, bob! You have done better than me. I started in 2005 just shortly before I started this thread, and have only found 400 40% and 59 90% kennedies. Also a few rolls of frankies and walkers. I have been very sporadic though. Due to school, and jobs, I have had to take a total of a 3-year break, spread out over the 5 years. I wish I could have found as many as you. Good job.

In a way, this thread has come back to bite me in the rear. It has encouraged more people to roll-search halves. And the more people roll-searching means more skunk boxes for all of us. So in a way I sorta regret starting this thread. Although It's encouraging to hear what others are finding. I know in the past 5 years, my finds have dropped off significantly lately. I don't know if I will ever reach the 500 mark of 40%ers. That was my goal. It may take another 5 years to get 100 more the rate things are going.

$300 in halves today, only had a proof in them. The good news today is I went to a new nearby coin shop and cherrypicked a '55 Franklin that was a Bugs Bunny and a '57 Franklin RPM, paid $30 for both and both are in MS shape. Plus my bank teller told me today when I picked up the halves that she could order bags of halves for me as long as I dont redump at that bank. And no fee.

I have kind of a sweet setup. The bank I get my stuff from, if someone turns in some halves, the vault manager will call me and hold them for me. She also will check with other tellers to see if they happen to have any. The bank I dump at has a coinstar that doesnt charge a fee. Definitely going to get her something nice for Christmas this year.

Does coinstar accept half dollars? I have a local coinstar in a store i should check it out if it applys fees. Didn't know :p and yes i would defiantly give her something... i did make sorta a friend in the bank he always ask me if i found any silver in the boxes when i show up again xD

Went to a Wells Fargo yesterday and asked if they had any halves. Teller said just one, which usually isn't worth it. But since I always take whatever is on hand, said sure and paid a dollar. Didn't even look at it in the bank just walked out with the half and 2 quarters in change in my hand. Walking across parking lot figured I'd give them shake. What's that? Sounds like silver. Looked down and saw the half was a Franklin! Nice.
