High green18 and I thank you for reading and commenting. Mine will go to my eldest son someday... Clinker
Well, let me tell you, it is very gratifying to see all the active parcipitation on this post. I sincerely "thank" you for all your comments and photo sharing. I'm overwhelmed! Clinker
French Statue of Liberty Coins I think I have 40 of the gold and 40 of the silver coins. Maybe only 20 each. I told my father in law to buy them as an investment and then later, when they didn't go up in value bought them back for him and just stuck them in a safe in the basement. They haven't appreciated much--a disappointment. I would have been better buying old, rated US gold coins in good condition.
Maybe it's the subject, but you produced an especially fine presentation this time, Clinker. All your presentations are of the highest quality, this one is just extra so. Vividly recall standing on the stern of the troop ship, USS Upsher, as we headed out from NJ, heading towards Europe. As we passed The Statue, the troops cheered and threw many proud salutes to our Noble Lady. They threw kissed, also. A group of us "lifers" remained on deck, watching as She slowly faded into the distance. Our belief in Duty, Honor and Country had suddenly gained an enormously more meaningful perspective. Being in Her presence was one of those life altering experiences. Just a personal thing. A really good one, Clinker. Good on you!!!
Hi Honolulu Dick: Good to hear from you and a great big THANK YOU for your super positive comment! Clinker
My understanding is that there is some variety in the weight and fineness of the French issues. One of the coin shops I was at, the owner had some that he had just gotten in and he didn't want to sell them until he verified the variety. What is the fineness and weight of the ones that have been mentioned in this thread? Oh, and what about the "made from" medal? This one actually includes bronze from the statue that was taken off when it was resheathed:
