What do you all think? Has this key date 1923 S SLQ been cleaned? If so has it been harshly cleaned? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140450654454&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT It's really hard to find this coin with a nice visible date like this one has. I've been searching for this coin for a long time. Price seems about right. Would you bid on it?
no thank you looks cleaned to me, I'm guessing in hand that coin has a ton of hairlines from scrubbing...the toning doesn't look natural, I'm seeing alot of spots... I think you'd be paying too much for a coin that grade in a cleaned condition...I wouldn't buy it.
If it's been cleaned, I can't tell it from the images. But, either way, I sure wouldn't buy an uncertified coin in that price range off of Ebay.
I agree that purchasing such a coin in that price range is "a risk" specially with those heavy cleaning marks (scratches) on it.
In addition to what Mark stated , the 1923-S is one of those Key Date Coins that are counterfeited quite heavily. I definitely would want to see better photos . They are horrible.
Buy a certified example There is a 1923-S coming up in Teletrade's auction on the 19th. It is too early to view a photo but the NGC grade is EF40. Here is the link: http://www.teletrade.com/coins/lot.asp?auction=2927&lot=1739
I agree 100%! anything over $15.00 I check out the following I make sure of graded and you can confirm that the number match on coin listed a TPG site.if I don't get that # I send it back.
What grade are you looking for? Good luck on Teletrade. There may be some competition for that coin on Teletrade (not from me). There are a couple large shows scheduled in Connecticut & New York in October. These are CoinFest & the Westchester coin show. There are a couple dealers that normally attend these shows that might have a 23-S. After Teletrade, tell us if you are still looking for one. I'll let you know by PM if I see one at the upcoming shows.
