This may be common knowledge and I've been left out in the rain again, but... While searching through several rolls of "junk" silver quarters I ran across 10 or so 42 Philly Washington Quarters and noticed that none of them had the designer's initials. These coins wern't all worn out either. Most are XF to AU. A few had a "bump" where the initials belonged, but most had nothing whatsoever--nada. After searching through another couple of rolls I then noticed that every 42 P I ran across no matter what condition had no initials. Is this the norm? If so, then a 42 Quarter with nice clear initials would be a rarity. Your thoughts please. Thanks

My 42 in an ICG ms66 holder has no initials or bump, interesting!

There are no designer initials on any of the Washingtons
    Source PCGS coin facts.
I have a complete registry set of Washingtons and none display any initials either.

Looks like they started putting initials on in 1943

After some extensive research, I believe you are correct. I find it strange that this is not noted in print anywhere I have looked. Most sites state that all have his initials. Could not find any place that stated otherwise. Strange

I guess I need to pull my junk and take a look. It's something I never paid notice to. Now I am curious. Also as to why the design change was not noted ?

Update: After going thru all my quarters in my album I found the initials on my 32D and 32S also found on a 34D or S I can't remember now, also on a 36 and a 38. None found on any others at all. I now assume that they are all supposed to have it, but over polishing of the dies must be the answer. Haven't found any on a 42 yet. Anybody got one? Also noticed that there were more on the D and S than the Philly.I guess since Philly ran the most it was more probable that these dies were over used/polished. Just my guess, but I now believe that there should be initials on all Quarters. JMHO
