I'm looking at the Ebay ads for several California Gold coins. They don't look real to me, but I know almost nothing about them. Could someone who know look at this ad and tell me if it is a Scam.JonySky http://cgi.ebay.com/USA-CALIFORNIA-...Z8366299276QQcategoryZ547QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.com/USA-CALIFORNIA-...Z8366296703QQcategoryZ547QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
That is a crude fake....doesn't really look like a real one... I have seen lots of that kind of fake on ebay...I wonder if that could be getting to the place where that will be the most faked piece! Speedy
I don't mean to be harsh, but if you don't know anything about them, you have no business buying them. Buy a few books on California fractional gold before you attempt to purchase one, or if you really don't want to learn first, buy a slabbed coin from a trusted dealer. That being said, these are counterfeit. Happy holidays...Mike
The woman who is selling them is a Quebecois, who is obviously unfamiliar with American coins. If you want to buy coins off her, ask her if she will sell you some Canadian silver $5 Maple Leaves. She has got 2 Magdalen Islands 1d. tokens in her Ebay store. You should have a look at how much she wants for them though.I bought my Magdalen Islands 1d. off my boss for way under NZ$100 a few years ago. As if they were necessary to ID this as a scam, there are a few big red flags: Poor feedback rating Private feedback No returns allowed
I've also bought notes from this person. Overall OK, though one was missing and although she said she'd send it, it never came and she refunded the money for the single note (which paypal took a portion of, so I lost out a bit). It wasn't a terrbile experience, but I've had better.
