I'm lucky enough to have my own "office" at home (spare bedroom). However, my wife insists that it has to look "pretty". Ummm....I'm a collector, that doesn't work. In an attempt to prettify as much as possible I made shelving in my closet that is perfectly suited to hold my coins. Take a look: I made the shelves to fit two boxes with a slight gap. The shelves are slightly more than 14" deep to fit the long boxes. I know, the shelving would make a carpenter cringe, but they were made to the exact dimensions of the closet and to perfectly fit my needs. I did all this with nothing but hand tools (though I got the shelves cut at Home Depot). Not a big job. No one needs to tell me the legs are crooked, I know and I don't care too much. Each shelf has three legs in the front, but five along the back. Total cost, about $40, probably less. Anyone else got a clever set up?
It is creative. But I too would have them in a safe. You should have your more expensive stuff in a SDB at least. But as for the set up it seems to be well thought out and fit your needs. Wanna come do one for me? j/k
I've kind of got the same thing going. My coins have to share space with my guns. Good stuff is in safe's and bank vaults (coins and guns). Common stuff is in plastic bins and used monster boxes.
If you here a loud crash one nite its probably not a robber, but your shelving. Just kiddin, not really. I like your set up, simple and easy access...
A nice job. As in how it looks who cares as long as it works for you. Thanks for post thinking on something like that to store my coins to.
I just stacked cardboard boxes in my coin closet. lol I think you have a great idea there. For the valuable stuff, I recommend a floor safe embedded in concrete, or a safe deposit box. Anyway, you are currently much better organized than I am, and I applaud you for it. gary
I like that there's desiccant in the closet Oh yea and that theres a bit of room left for future purchases!!
Nice setup. However, like others have posted, I keep mine in SDBs. For the few that I do have temporarily, I keep them in a safe. Mr. Kalashnikoff, Mr. Ruger, and Messrs. Mosin & Nagant provide security.
Looks pretty heavy, hope your located on the ground floor or on a concrete slab foundation. Maybe that's just the decoy closet and all the boxes/albums are empty.
I'm guessing that those notes aren't touching the cardboard box but I still don't like my papers surrounded by all that acid! These days I put everything in acid free boxes. (Spouse collectors have boxes of empty boxes!)
