Is there a certain camera most people use or think would be best to use to photograph their coins? Or do people scan them? Sorry for the noob question....

    Thanks!

A digital camera with macro. Scanning is good for banknotes and other ephemera but for coins, I prefer an image taken with a camera because you can play with lighting which is important for showing details. A scanned image looks flat.

There are several threads on coin photography that will give you a lot of help. Use the "search" function at the top of the page.
