Just picked this up, fits with my interest in Mexican War coins, medals, etc.. I believe it is a campaign medal for Zachary taylor for the 1848 presidential election but a bit confused that it has an 1847 date (although that is when the war was won), anyone know more about this?
Found this reference to it, a 24mm bronze "medalet" created for the 1848 presidential election. http://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/original-1848-zachary-taylor-campaign-medalet I bought it for my collection, very happy to have found it.
Hey, I'm in good company, one sitting in Paris, a little better quality than mine perhaps "Donated by Alexander Vattemare to the Bibliothèque Impériale in 1861." http://musee.louvre.fr/bases/lafaye...domaine=&vignette=oui&f=notice&tri=Nom&sens=0
presidential tokens have been used dating back to as early as washington....lincoln seems to be the most popular
Hi, I just came across this coin I was wondering if someone could tell me straight up what it's worth. Thanks!
alyates, seems there are quite a few poor quality examples of this token around so it is not especially rare but it is hard to find in good quality. I have seen them sold from $15.00 to over $100.00, a high grade would be worth more IMO.
