If you ordered a Buchanan FS Liberty what was your date and time of your order confirmation vs delivery? My order receipt from the Mint for my Buchanan Liberty is 12:19 on 9/2. UPS tells me that it is being shipped "next day air" for delivery today 9/10. I paid $4.95 for standard shipping.

    Couple of questions:
The Mint reported over 6,000 Sales of Buchanan coins. Since my coin wasn't shipped till yesterday 9/9, can we interpret that to mean that those 6,000 sales occurred in the first 18 mins. before my order?
Does the Mint ship all 1/2 oz gold coins "next day air" when we pay standard shipping for $4.95? Is this for security reasons? I ask this because I have ordered several items through eBay recently that have been shipped Priority Small Flat Rate Box, and they seem to take 2-3 days from the east coast to to my home north of San Diego. Excellent delivery by the USPS for a std. charge of $4.95

If the Mint reported 6,000 + sales of these coins, and mine which was ordered in the first 19 minutes wasn't shipped for a week. How many orders did the Mint have in the first Day? Is the Mint reporting Orders or shippments? Humm....

I don't think any Liberty Spouse GOLD will be the winner in the future, because they are very high mintage compared to Julie Tyler.

"will be the winner" , well if your only reason to purchase an $800 gold proof coin is to purchase the coin in the series with the lowest mintage because of an ugly design, then maybe your point is valid, but I dare say that many of us have a lot of other reasons why we made our purchase. I hope you "enjoy" your coin collection.

illini420 's Liberty collection is an excellent example of why other coins in this series may have future value, in addition to being attractive.

presuming that buchanan's liberty mintage is high. but to complete the popular 4 design 8 coin (proof & unc) liberty set. only 4,334 set are available in this planet. think about it.

Monetary value greatly affects our perception of beauty. I never really looked at a chain cent until I saw the big pic on this site and I must say, the value of that coin is not based on the quality of the craftsmanship. Personally, I think Julie and Louisa were perhaps the more physically attractive ladies, if not coins, yet they're in the running for the least sold in their respective years. The Libertys' value will be affected by crossover appeal to classic coin collectors regardless of their final placement in the race to be the worst selling.

Dave: I'm sure it's number sold not number shipped.

Survival rates will eventually have an effect, if vast numbers of unpopular FS coins are selling at bullion spot levels, many will end up in the melt and the available numismatic 'high grade' examples will be minimal. Don't be fooled by published mintage figures. It is certainly just an opinion of mine but one I think needs to be offered in warning lest we forget when considering purchases of significant value. I don't deny that low mintages help (hype?) a coins value to some degree, but there are other factors to consider within the number of any one coin type or date minted. Please note that while I follow the FS coins, I do not personally collect them as they are unattractive to me and do not stimulate my interests, but the mintage warning can be applied in the case of many (perhaps even all) coins.

Plus the highest combined mintage for Bucs can only ever be 38% of the Jeffersons.

My comment about the FS coin design has noting to do with the attractiveness of the women.

Coins generally are designed to remember and honor some heroic, inspiring event, or natural symbol (eagles, buffalo, National Parks, etc.). The FS designs, due to the social restrictions on women during most of the history of our country, are just not that attractive IMHO. Images of: attending injures soldiers; dancing; travel; or just sitting, hardly are the subject matter that generally makes coins attractive.

Buchanan has a bookkeeper on the reverse of the Liberty. This is also not an image that most folks would generally consider patriotic, unless the bookkeeper is preparing IRS tax forms. LOL I spent the better part of my working life doing accounting in one form or an other so this image actually has a special appeal for me.

It sounds like you're saying there's an attractiveness to a coin's subject itself that you respond to. I thought that's what I was saying too!

    Lady Liberty and the Bookkkepper

My pretty lady finally arrived. The camera magnification show up many of the imperfections in the Air-Tite coin case. Are these acceptable in a proof coin, or should it be returned for a cleaner version?

I carefully removed the imperfections in mine with the corner of a piece of paper. (not blowing!) As long as the coin itself isn't affected, I wouldn't risk the possibility of trading down!

Dave: Looks like you got a nice coin. It is not uncommon to receive coins direct from the Mint with fibers from the packaging clinging to the capsule, both inside and out. I personally don't let very minor things that require more than 10x magnification to spot bother me. Enjoy your new acquisition! Congrats!

I'm looking at the first month sales stats (First Strike eligibility) for the previous five spouses and Bucs Lib's first weekend beat all the 30 day totals going back to Julia (when I started keeping track)

    Jackson Liberty makes Two

Noticed what appeared to be a "bargin" on eBay that I bid on. Originally I had no intention on collecting the Liberty set but now I have two of four, so...

What do you think about my second Lady Liberty? Is she as pretty as the first or prettier?

I like the obverse of the Jefferson coin, but the reverse is horrible... I mean come on... that's the best they could think of, his grave marker and inscription!!!!! Lame!!!!

Good luck finding bargains on the Jackson and the Van Buren.

Of the 4 I think the Jackson is my favorite all around design.

Not bargains, but reasonable is what I found. There is a local guy with both Jackson and VB that wants $685 each.

I agree, Jackson is probably the most attractive of the four. I prefer the Liberty on Jefferson the most so I don't turn the coin over LOL.

Have you found a case that you like to display all four at once?
