A local coin dealer checked it and couldn't tell if it was a die error or possible mutilation (deliberate or otherwise). It's a keeper for my meager collection, anyway. Any thoughts? TIA
I would assume it's a filled die error. Some crud lodged in the recesses of the die face corresponding to the missing stars.
The coin looks to have some evidence of starsbeing there, so either age or deliberate damage caused it.
Thanks to all for checking this one out. So if it IS a filled die, will this knock it down a grade? Sorry for a newbie question - I've just never had or dealt with an error coin.
