Reunion is an island in Indian Ocean, has an area 2510 sq.km. and a population 777000. First visitors of Reunion island was a Portuguese navigators (in 1513). In 1642 Reunion become a French ownership as the Bourbon Island. Since 1793 until 1806 Bourbon Island was renamed in Reunion Island; in 1806 it was renamed in Bonapart Island; in 1810 it was renamed in Bourbon Island, and in 1848 - in Reunion Island. Since 1946 Reunion is a oversea department of France.
Remember that California girl Abby Sunderland who tried to sail around the world whose boat "Wild Eyes" broke up in the Indian Ocean? She was rescued by a French boat which took her to Reunion Island. Thus giving Reunion it's 15 minutes of fame.
