Here is a very small batch of coins purchased last night from my friend the old time collector. The batch is small but each little coin is cool in its own way.

I love old time collection coins. One of my favorite areas to buy, they are just fun going through.

Yes, this coin is from Iran. The United States currently maintains comprehensive economic embargoes against Iran (and several other countries & persons). This coin is dated 1944 which is prior to the current Export Administration Regulations. Krause doesn’t list the mintage figure for this 60% silver coin. The design on this 5-Rials includes the radiant lion holding the sword. The value of this Persian coin is something like $6 in UNC.

It is a Guatemala ¼ Real dated 1901.

The obverse & reverse have medal orientation. According to Krause, they made 5 million of these little Copper-Nickel coins. This one has taken-on a really nice toning. It looks like it should for being 110 years old & very well preserved. Would you grade this one BU? Krause list it at only $3 in UNC.

Cool ! What is the coin at the top center ? Ha Penny or Shilling ? I couldn't get good magnification on my computer for some reason.

This is an 1857 Denmark 16 Rigsmontskilling. 16-RM is an unusual denomination. [IMG]

IMHO this grades EF45. It is quite attractive in hand. It is an 1882 Romanian 5 Bani.

Very nice lot, I like the Bull neck 6d and the 1/4 Real I think the 3 volcanoes shown are the ones by Lake Atitlán :D

Thank you for posting that information Collect89. I originally though that those were pyrimids on the reverse, but I see now that they are volcanos. It's still a great looking coin after all this time. I am not good at guessing grades, but I think that BU would mean original tone. I can not see any wear on the coin, so I would at least say Unc. & up.

We are back from our 3-day weekend. The waves in RI were nice after hurricane Earl passed-by on Friday. Thanks to everyone for the comments & thanks for letting me share.
